proposal
Topic: remix
For my remix project I'm most likely going to be remixing a song.I haven't quite decided what song yet but I'm leaning towards Billie Holliday. If I don't do her song though, whatever other one I pick will be an older one. The reason for that is that I think what remixing does best is bring generations closer together. For example Janet Jackson used samples from Jonie Mithchells "Big yellow Taxi"song in one of her more relativly recent songs.By doing this it introduced a great 60's and 70's singer and musician into the cd players of teenagers who normally would not have cared to hear it before. Remixing of songs brodens peoples views and tastes in music which I think is so important.
A long with the song I will most likely mess around with some photos that relate to the music.I'll probablly give them a graffitti influnced look so that they can be introduced to a different audience the same way remixing a song works.

performance project
Topic: performance
For my project I would like to show a time elapsed process that I will attempt to edit to fit the beat of a song. The topic will be me (or a friend) painting a large (4x4 feet) picture. The subject of the painting will relate to the music such as jazz song will have jazz image etc. It will be painted somewhere outside hopefully, depending on weather, and will most likely involve interaction with other people.
This is my intial idea, it will probablly change in the process. If you have any ideas, critisism, or anything else e-mail me.

Robotics(Drawbot)
Topic: randomness
Last class we made drawbots which are exacly what it sounds like, robots that draw.My day with the robot started off very slowly ,and I got frusterated when it wasn't working properly. At that point I shouldn't have given up as much as I did and tried to make the best robot I could. But instead I made it with little effort. When the robot atually started to work though,I got a little excited and started to understand and to get a little more into the project.

One thing I found paticularly interesting was the amount of fun that some of the class was having. It's good to be reminded that people do still make an effort to make the most of any sittuation. It was a good way to get to know the class better as well. There were some pretty creative bots that people came up with ,one even had arms.It was interesting the reaction from the other students and teachers walking by in the hallway. They all seemed pretty amused and jelous that we got to spend all class playing with robots.

MY bot when I finally got it working was a bit less "intellegent" than the other drawbots. It hopped around, didn't make even lines, couldn't draw proper circles, and didn't follow any sort of a pattern. But then again how much fun would it be if every robot was the same?

(I will post some photos later I didn't understand where to find them)
